Step Two – Centered in His Presence
We live in an incredibly fractured world, pulling us in many
directions at once. Spiritual progress isn't about adding
more to our overscheduled lives but about embracing
simplicity—being centered in the presence of Christ.
Jesus taught, “Remain in me, as I also remain in you.”
Modern life trains us to believe that growth comes through more effort,
more activity, and more complexity. But throughout the history of the
Church, the saints discovered something different: God is most deeply
known in simplicity.
When we slow down and reduce the noise of our lives, our attention can
return to the One who is always present. Simplicity does not mean the
absence of activity—it means doing fewer things with a whole heart before
God.
Jesus interacted with a woman during His ministry, demonstrating how
busyness today can threaten our inner peace.
“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset
about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one.”
Jesus, who was solely qualified, summarized all the moral directives of the
Law and the Prophets into one principle.
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul
and with all your mind.”
He then added, “And your neighbor as yourself.”
It's so easy to get caught up in all the important things we feel we must do,
but if we fail at THE ONE THING, the only thing that truly matters, what have
we achieved? So, no matter what else we prioritize on our journey, we need
to learn how to center ourselves in the Presence of Jesus so that we can
continually fall in love with Him.
Note: Praying The One Prayer with heartfelt intention every day will help
you stay centered every day in the “hallowed” Presence of Jesus.
